Iranian PhD Student Wins Gold at iCAN 2019 for Oil Innovation

EghtesadOnline: An innovation by an Iranian scholar received the top award at the 4th International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada, iCAN 2019.

PhD student in petroleum engineering Kambiz Mehdizadeh won the gold medal for his “design on applicable hardware algorithm to provide a hydraulic fracture in oil reservoir for enhanced oil recovery,” the Persian-language newspaper Aftab-e Yazd reported.

Mehdizadeh received the honor at the awarding ceremony in late August at North York Memorial Community Hall in Toronto where finalists from 20 countries competed.

Participation in the competition this year marked a record of 50 countries with 500 plus inventions, according to Financial Tribune.

The Iranian’s innovation was in competition with inventions and innovations from Canada, the US, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Poland, Romania, Austria and Egypt among other finalists.

The iCAN 2019 jury included local and international experts in the field of invention, innovation, scientific research and intellectual property.

Toronto International Society of Innovation & Advanced Skills organizes the event every year. It is supported by the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations plus the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations.

The main purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for innovators from around the world to expand their activities by showcasing and promoting their inventions/new products.
