The first phase of a 132-kilovolt substation in Choram County came online and construction on the second phase started, the Energy Ministry news portal Paven reported.
Comprising a transformer and five feeders, the first phase of the substation was completed in two years and cost $1.1 million.
The second phase will have two transformers and 10 feeders and is expected to come on line by 2021 with an investment of $4.1 million, according to Financial Tribune.
Increasing electricity supply in Choram and the surrounding regions, increasing network stability and improving the voltage status are key goals of the project.
Domestic Companies
Domestic companies carried out all stages of design, engineering, equipment supply and implementation of the project in the first phase and will do the same for the second phase.
Almost all power generation equipment, including turbines and generators, are manufactured inside the country.
Ardakanian broke ground for the 132kV transmission line between the provincial capital Yasuj and Behbahan City. He was present in Dejkuh County when construction of a 132kV substation started.
With one transformer and four feeders, the substation will expand the power grid for home, industrial and agricultural subscribers, increase network stability and reduce the probability of blackouts in the region.
Carried out by local companies, the project is estimated to cost $1.3 million and come on stream by 2021.
The minister paid a visit to two power distribution projects in Bahmai County, which are halfway through and should be completed in two years at a cost of $7.4 million.
Gachsaran Power Plant
Construction of a 25 megawatt power plant is underway in Gachsaran County.
As an industrial region, Gachsaran is the biggest consumer of electricity in Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province.
In a bid to meet increasing demand for electricity in Gachsaran, a small thermal power plant will be connected to the national grid by March.
Gachsaran is known as Iran's oil roof because of its lofty oil towers. It is home to the second largest oil field in Iran.
Located on the eastern flank of Behbahan in Khuzestan Province, Gachsaran has a population of 324,000 people with 45,000 electricity subscribers.
Solar Energy
According to local power officials, the province has suitable conditions for generating solar energy. A 100 hectare land in Gachsaran is allocated for a solar farm, and is estimated to cost $6 million.
Other solar projects in Bahmai and Behbahan are also underway. Since last year, over 80 solar panels have been set up in seven villages of the province.
