EghtesadOnline: Hashtgerd Metro Station, an extension of Tehran-Karaj intercity subway’s Line 5, is to be launched in two weeks.

The line currently connects Sadeqieh Square in Tehran to Golshahr in Alborz Province.

According to Mohammad Ali Hajizadeh, the deputy head of Hashtgerd New Town Construction Company, the station’s construction is complete and it will become operational on Nov. 15 coinciding with the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Tasnim News Agency reported.

"During the past month, power and signaling systems were connected and fences and other equipments were installed in the station," Hajizadeh said, adding that the facility is currently undergoing trials, Financial Tribune reported.

The inauguration of the station is expected to be attended by President Hassan Rouhani, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Hossein Salami and senior urban managers.

Hashtgerd is located 25 kilometers west of Golshahr Station in Karaj, the last station of Tehran Metro’s Line 5.

The construction of Hashtgerd station was started in July 2018 by HNTCC.

Metro Line 5 was partly launched in 1998, stretching from Karaj to Sadeqieh in Tehran. Since then, the line was gradually extended to Golshahr.

Line 5 is currently 41 kilometers long with 11 stations. Sadeqieh Station is at a junction of Line 5 and Tehran Metro’s Line 2.

Line 5 is already overcrowded. People regularly using the line are worried that expansion of the line to Hashtgerd—which is certain to be followed with a surge in the number of passenger—would lead to a sharp fall in the quality of services since no plan is in place for increasing the number of trains or their frequency.
