“The Agriculture Ministry is carrying out this project in collaboration with the Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology. Five companies are currently involved in the project,” the official was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.
Keshavarz noted that 29 million tons of different kinds of vegetables are produced in Iran annually, Financial Tribune reported.
“Today, some 90% of the seed required for this amount of production are imported,” he added.
According to the National Agriculture and Water Strategic Research Center, which reports on Iran's agrifood trade, a total of $1.21 billion worth of vegetables were exported from Iran in the last Iranian year (March 2018-19).
