Steel Heavyweights Register Growth in Upstream Output

EghtesadOnline: The upstream steel industry registered growth in the production of iron ore concentrate, pellet and direct reduced iron during the first nine months of the current fiscal year (March 20-Dec. 20), latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization showed.

The IMIDRO report takes into account the output of major producers, hence the overall production should be higher than the figures released, which are as follows:

 

 

 

Concentrate

A total of 37.54 million tons of iron ore concentrate were produced during the period, marking a 6% increase compared with the same period of last year. 

According to IMIDRO, Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex had the highest share of the output, with an output of 12.52 million tons. The number is 3% higher than the same period of last year. 

Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex came next with 8.56 million tons (up 21% YOY), followed by Middle East Mines and Mining Industries Development Holding Company with 4.82 million tons (up 21% YOY) and Goharzamin Iron Ore Company with 3.36 million tons (down 1% YoY) of output during the nine-month period.

Other major producers included Iran Central Iron Ore Company with 3.11 million tons (down 14% YOY), National Development Company with 1.84 million tons (up 4% YOY) and Opal Parsian Sangan with 1.75 million tons (down 23% YOY).

Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company recorded the highest increase in iron ore concentrate production during the nine months. The company’s output increased by 39% to 1.12 million tons. 

Iron ore concentrate output during the ninth Iranian month (Nov. 21- Dec. 20) amounted to 4.37 million tons to register a 12% growth compared with the same period of last year. 

Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex was the leading producer during the month, solely accounting for 1.45 million tons of the monthly output. Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex followed with 976,398 tons of monthly output.

Chadormalu also registered the highest increase during the month under review with 57%.

 

 

Pellet

The pellet output of major steel mills amounted to 34.55 million tons during the period, posting a growth of 11% compared with the same period of the previous year.

Golgohar was again the largest producer with 9.48 million tons (up 4% YOY), followed by Mobarakeh Steel Company with 5.59 million tons (up 10% YOY), MIDHCO with 4.88 million (up 15% YOY), Khouzestan Steel Company with 4.45 million tons (down 5% YOY) and Chadormalu with 2.75 million tons (up 3% YOY).

Other major pellet producers included Opal Parsian Sangan with 2.48 million tons (up 3% YOY), Sangan Mineral and Industrial Company with 2.36 million tons (up 50% YOY) and Khorasan Steel Company with 1.22 million tons (up 14% YOY). 

Sangan Mineral and Industrial Company registered the largest growth in pellet output during the above-mentioned period, 50%, compared with the same period of last year. 

Pellet production witnessed a 10% year-on-year increase during the ninth month of the Iranian year to 3.83 million tons, IMIDRO’s data show. 

Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company registered the highest jump in output of 140% during the month to Dec. 20. 

  

 

Direct-Reduced Iron 

Production of direct-reduced iron stood at 23.35 million tons during the first three quarters of the fiscal year, up 9% YOY. 

Mobarakeh accounted for the largest share of the output with 5.87 million tons (up 14% YOY), followed by KSC with 3.17 million tons (up 8% YOY), Golgohar Complex with 2.23 million tons, South Kaveh Steel Company with 1.304 million tons (up 12% YOY), Hormozgan Steel Company with 1.24 tons (up 5% YOY), Chadormalu Steel Company with 1.19 million tons (up 3% YOY) and Saba Steel Complex with 1.03 million tons (up 11% YOY).

As per the figures, Baft Steel Company recorded the highest growth in DRI output during the period under review, with a 55% increase compared with the same period of last year. 

DRI production reached 2.631 million tons during the month to Dec. 20, indicating a 5% growth YOY. Mobarakeh Steel Company produced 658,180 tons of DRI to lead the market during the ninth month of the fiscal year. MSC's monthly output registered a 14% increase, year-on-year.
