EghtesadOnline: The average Producer Price Index of the electricity sector during the four-quarter period ending Dec. 20, which marks the end of the third quarter of the current Iranian year, increased by 29.3% compared with the same period of the year before.

According to the latest report of the Statistical Center of Iran, the index (using the Iranian year ending March 2017 as the base year) stood at 156.9 in Q3 (Sept. 22-Dec. 20, 2020), indicating an increase of 7.3% compared with the preceding quarter and a growth of 45.5% compared with the same quarter of last year.

The importance of PPI lies in its predictive content for the future pattern of Consumer Price Index. Changes in PPI are usually reflected in CPI within a short period of time.

PPI monitors the price fluctuations of goods and services for the producer whereas CPI measures changes in the price level of a basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households.
