“The 2,500-ton cargo has been exported to the neighbor and the first urea cargo from LPC will be exported soon,” ISNA quoted Mohsen Mahmoudi as saying.
“With annual production capacity at 670,000 tons of ammonia and 1 million plus tons of urea, the complex is the sixth petrochemical company in Iran set up by domestic engineers,” he said.
He referred to technical and engineering studies underway for the construction of carbon dioxide recycling unit at the complex. “The project will help increase urea production capacity by about 10%”.
LPC is a subsidiary of the Iranian Investment Petrochemical Group, located 55km off the city of Lordegan. An estimated $800 million has been invested in the two units.
The ammonia unit of the company in the western province started production last June and its urea unit came on stream in September.
Ammonia is used mainly in the production of fertilizers and chemicals like ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, mono ammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate and urea.
More than 90% of world industrial production of urea is used as a nitrogen-release fertilizer and as raw material in other industries.
Iran is self-sufficient in urea production. In two years urea output is expected to reach 14.7 million tons per annum from 7.4 million tons now after new plants open.
Iran plans to add 8.4 million tons per year to ammonia output by 2026 with 20 new plants. Cost of the new units is estimated at $2 billion.
