The facility has the capacity to treat 130 cubic meters of wastewater per hour, the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana reported.
With the launch of the new unit, Damavand Utility Plant seeks to reuse the wastewater produced in different sections of the plant and reduce the use of groundwater and seawater to irrigate green space.
The first phase of the unit was completed in less than a year at about $6 million and the second phase, with the same capacity, is expected to become operational next year.
Damavand Petrochemical Utility Plant provides power, steam, water and treated wastewater to 24 petrochemical plants located in Phase 2 of Pars Special Economic Energy Zone.
The plant also produces 400,000 cubic meters of industrial water, 450,000 cubic meters of oxygen for methanol units and 1,890 tons of steam for petrochemical plants.
The port city of Asalouyeh is home to a number of petrochemical complexes that receive gas and gas condensate feedstock from the giant South Pars Gas Field that Iran shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf.
Earlier this month, the power station of Damavand utility plant was linked to the national power grid to send its surplus electricity to the network and help stabilize the situation.
