Gilan Exports Surpass $210m in Four Months

EghtesadOnline: Exports from Gilan Province stood at 352,116 tons worth $210.71 million in the first four months of the current fiscal year (March 21-July 22), registering a 19% and 32% growth in weight and value respectively year-on-year.

According to Farhad Dalq-Poush, the head of Gilan Industry, Mines and Trade Organization, mineral, chemical, plastic and food products were the main goods exported from Gilan Province during the period.

“Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Turkmenistan and Belarus were its major export destinations,” he was quoted as saying by IRNA.

Imports to Gilan hit 588,440 tons worth $402.4 million in the same period, registering a 0.2% decline in terms of weight and 45% growth in value YOY.

Barley and feed corn, meat, vegetable oil, wood, chemical products, paper, cardboard and wood pulp, machinery, accessories and related parts were the most important imported goods.

The imported goods came from Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Azerbaijan, the UAE, Ukraine, Turkey and Ecuador.

With more than 438,000 hectares of agricultural land, the northern province’s output of agronomical, horticultural, livestock and seafood products stands at 3 million tons worth 172 trillion rials (about $710 million) per year.  

Gilan is one of the top producers of rice, tea, hazelnuts, peanuts, olives, silk cocoons, bony fish, kiwis and cottonwood in Iran. It is one of the 31 provinces of Iran.

Located along the Caspian Sea, west of the province of Mazandaran, east of the province of Ardabil and north of the provinces of Zanjan and Qazvin, Gilan borders the Republic of Azerbaijan in the north and Russia across the Caspian Sea.

The province is home to two major ports of Astara and Anzali.
