EghtesadOnline: Iran traded $3.2 billion worth of metals in the first quarter of the current fiscal year (March 21-June 21).

Exports stood at $2.6 billion as imports during the period were worth $527 million, according to a report by Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture.

The trade volume registered a 200% growth compared with the same period of last year, mainly due to the 300% growth in exports.

The TCCIM report also noted that the main driver of growth in metal exports was the 600% upsurge in steel coil exports, the chamber’s news portal reported.

China, Iraq and Turkey were the main export destinations for Iranian metals in Q1.

Metal imports registered a 7% year-on-year growth with cold-rolled coil being the main imported product during the period.

The imports mainly came from China, the UAE and Turkey. The growth in imports from the UAE was the main driver of increase in total metal imports in Q1.

Imports from Switzerland, Hong Kong, Brazil and Vietnam registered 7.6%, 6.7%, 4.9% and 4.5% growth respectively.

The report also explains that the exports mainly consisted of products with little value added, i.e., those that undergo no or small processing.
