Upsurge in Industrial Investments

EghtesadOnline: A total of 3.24 quadrillion rials ($11.57 billion) worth of investment have been made in industrial units for which establishment permits were issued by the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade, while projects with operating licenses received close to 846.62 trillion rials ($3.02 billion) in the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21-July 22).

Investment volumes in industrial units with establishment permits and operating licenses show a respective growth rate of 175.4% and 687.4% compared with the similar period of last year, the latest report released by the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade shows.

 

 

Establishment Permits

A total of 12,553 establishment permits were issued during the period under review, registering a 12.1% year-on-year growth. These projects are expected to create 297,900 jobs, which is 24% more compared with the corresponding period of the year before. 

Yazd Province with 937, East Azarbaijan Province with 865 and Semnan Province with 864 had the largest share of establishment permits issued during the period.

Yazd Province, with 525.29 trillion rials ($1.88 billion) worth of investments in 937 projects with establishment permits, attracted the highest amount of investments. This amount registers a 517.3% surge compared with the corresponding period of last year.

The number of establishment permits issued for industrial units located in free trade and special economic zones declined by 29.7% to 45. 

Investments worth 4.72 trillion rials ($16.86 million) are expected to be made in these projects to generate 1,700 jobs, registering a 78.7% and 31.5% plunge YOY respectively.

The field of “other non-metal minerals” saw the highest number of establishment permits (1,650) followed by “food and beverages” (1,203) and “production of chemicals” (1,184). The field of “other non-metal minerals” generated the highest number of jobs (46,643).

The highest volume of investment in these units is expected to be made in projects related to “essential metal production” with 706.63 trillion rials ($2.51 billion). The volume accounts for 21.8% of all investments made in projects with establishment permits over the four-month period. 

 

 

Operating Licenses

A total of 2,109 operating licenses were issued during the period under review, which shows a 21.6% YOY increase. These projects are expected to create 52,707 jobs, indicating an 81.8% rise compared with the corresponding period of last year.

Isfahan Province with 185 and South Khorasan with 170 had the largest share of all operating licenses issued during the four months, and Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province with nine had the lowest number of permits among all provinces.

Fars Province, with 159.9 trillion rials ($571.07 million) for 121 projects with operating licenses, attracted the highest volume of estimated investment. The figure shows a whopping 4,920.6% surge compared with the similar period of last year and accounts for 18.9% of total investments made in projects with operating licenses. 

The highest number of jobs were generated in the provinces of Kerman and Isfahan with 6,564 and 5,090 jobs respectively.

The number of such licenses issued for industrial projects located in free trade and special economic zones stood at 60, indicating a decline of 66.7% YOY. A total of 12.08 trillion rials ($43.14 million) worth of investments have been made in these projects to create 1,538 jobs, registering a 94.1% and 84.2% fall respectively compared with the corresponding period of last year.

The field of chemical production saw the highest number of operating licenses, namely 324. The field of essential metals production created the highest number of jobs (7,871) in the four-month period. 

The highest volume of investments in this regard were made in projects related to the coke and oil derivatives (a total of 311.6 trillion rials or $1.11 billion). The figure skyrocketed by 20,699.8% YOY and accounted for 36.8% of all investments made in industrial units for which operating licenses were issued. 

The number of greenfield projects for which operating licenses were issued stood at 1,140, some 27 of which were for those located in free trade and special economic zones, indicating a 33% rise and 69.3% decline respectively YOY. 

A total of 1,029 permits were issued for the operation of brownfield projects, 33 of which were located in FTZs and special economic zones showing a 10.9% increase and 64.1% decline YOY, respectively.

 

 

Mineral Production Permits

A total of 158 mineral production permits were issued during the first four months of the current fiscal year, registering a 22.5% fall compared with the similar period of last year. 

These permits are expected to create 1,553 jobs, which indicate an 8% decline compared with the same period of last year.

The nominal mineral extraction capacity of projects stands at 5.73 million tons, which show a 43.9% decline compared with last year’s corresponding period.

The provinces of Khorasan Razavi with 29, Semnan with 14, Yazd with 13, Isfahan with 11 and Kerman with 10 had the largest share of mineral production permits issued during the period.

Mineral production permits issued in the four months are expected to create the largest number of jobs in Kerman Province (254), Khorasan Razavi Province (201), Mazandaran Province (145), Isfahan Province (107) and Sistan-Baluchestan (102).

The provinces of Kerman, Khorasan Razavi and Markazi with a total of 863,800 tons, 520,000 tons and 344,000 tons respectively had the highest volume of nominal extraction capacities. 

A total of 143 exploration permits were issued during the four months ending July 22, unchanged compared with the corresponding period of last year. 

Exploration costs stood at 458.4 billion rials ($1.64 million), registering a YOY increase of 38.7%.
