EghtesadOnline: The Health Ministry on Friday registered the lowest tally of daily Covid-19 fatalities since July as infections fell below 10,000 and deaths dropped under 200.

After 82 days, overnight fatalities declined to 185 from a peak of 709 as the fifth wave of the outbreak driven by the Delta variant subsided, ISNA reported.

Daily cases also saw a gradual drop from a high of 50,000 to just under 10,000 within 97 days, taking the tally of the outbreak to 5.68 million.

Only seven cities throughout the country remain on red alert, from a previous high of over 350. Iran ramped up vaccine rollout when the disease’s resurgence overwhelmed its healthcare system over summer.

So far, over 18.2 million people have been fully vaccinated and 43.9 million have received a first dose.

The ministry gave out 758,000 vaccine shots in one day, bringing the total number of shots administered since the start of the vaccination campaign in February to 62.1 million.

Iran is supplied with weekly shipments of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine as part of containment efforts.

Anyone over the age of 12 is eligible to get a coronavirus vaccine shot in the country.
