Growth in Output of Seven Mineral Products in Four Months

EghetsadOnline: The Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade's review of the current Iranian year’s first four months (March 21-July 22) shows the output of seven mineral products (out of 12 under review) saw growth compared with the similar period of last year.

A total of 180,600 tons of pure aluminum ingots were produced during the period, up 34.5% compared with the corresponding period of last year, registering the highest growth.

The production of porcelain dishes increased by 31.1% YOY to stand at 19,600 tons.

Sheet glass production rose by 30.2% YOY to reach 442,900 tons.

Tile and ceramic production hit 148.76 million square meters, experiencing a 15.1% YOY increase.

The output of copper cathode stood at 100,900 tons, showing a YOY increase of 6.4% while that of glass dishes hit 248,000 tons, registering a YOY increase of 5.2%.

Crude steel production stood at 9.55 million tons, indicating a 1.5% rise compared with last year’s similar period.

A total of 31,200 tons of sanitaryware were produced over the four months under review, indicating a 13.7% decline YOY.

Alumina production stood at 75,400 tons during the same period, down 9.5% YOY.  

Cement production declined by 6.4% over the same period to stand at 21.69 million tons.

The output of steel products hit 8.29 million tons, down 6.3% YOY.

Coal concentrate production saw a 1.7% decline to reach close to 484,200 tons.

During the fourth fiscal month (June 22-July 22), the production of two mineral products (out of 12 under review) increased compared to the preceding month.

Alumina production stood at 19,400 tons, up by 9% MOM and that of porcelain dishes increased by 4.3% MOM to stand at 5,400 tons.

Crude steel production hit 1.53 million tons, indicating a 38.3% fall compared with the previous month.

Cement production declined by 28.4% MOM to stand at 4.36 million tons.

The output of steel products reached 1.59 million tons, down 25.6%, and that of copper cathode stood at 22,400 tons, down 15.4% month-on-month.

About 44,800 tons of pure aluminum ingots were produced, down 7.7% compared to the preceding month.

Tile and ceramic production stood at 38.37 million square meters, experiencing a 4.6% MOM decrease.

A total of 8,700 tons of sanitaryware were produced in the fourth month, indicating a 3.7% decline MOM.

Coal concentrate production also registered a 2.2% MOM decline to reach 124,300 tons.

The production of glass dishes reached a total of 59,900 tons, registering a month-on-month decrease of 1.9%.

Sheet glass production declined by 0.8% month-on-month to stand at 110,200 tons.

Iran’s mineral reserves have reached 60 billion tons, more than half of which are proven. The country is home to 68 types of minerals. 

According to the United States Geological Survey, Iran holds the world's largest zinc, ninth largest copper, 10th largest iron ore, fifth largest gypsum and barite, and 10th largest uranium reserves. 

Overall, Iran is home to 7% of global mineral reserves.
